Yet another example of poor sportsmanship and gamesmanship by the mens 4.5 teams. Both teams in finals had hired guns that were clearly 5-5.5 players. Singles scores being 0,0 and 0,1 in matches leading up to the finals. Its not about fun that is for sure
One of the hired guns got beat the other didn't so I think the 17 yr old kid is the REAL hired gun!
17 if turning 18 this year qualifies to play. I understand about the competitiveness tho. How can a 2.5 player been one for years? How can they play for years then sign up as a beginner? This needs to be more fair.
Agreed but he lost more games in his one singles match than the other guy did in 2 singles matches. No doubt neither of them are 4.5
It is pretty easy to lose more games in a singles match when one guy obviously wins legitimately and the other(17yr old kid) is told to tank games to keep the score competitive.
Big difference there. What else do you expect from the Ensminger low class crew?
I just don't understand how you can win your first doubles match 0,1 and then win your next 2 singles matches 0,1 and 0,0. Really? This guy is clearly not a 4.5 player. I think the team captain realized that and was trying to hide him in the doubles in the final match.
Looks like some folks got busted at the 3.0/4.0 midseason tournanment. captains beware--the long arm of the ATA will swat you down.
i think a distinction needs to be made between doubles and singles player. you can take a self-rate, level higher singles player and his singles domination won't necessarily translate on the doubles court. it is a totally different game.
Hey look at who that guy played in singles and in doubles before his final match...they are hardly legit 4.5 players! You need to dig deeper than just looking at scores, everyone know many players got bumped up that shouldn't have over the last few years!
He just beat Julio Olaya Sr in singles 0 and 2, I dont understand who he isnt subect to dynamic dq
Who has Julio Olya Sr beat in his 4.5 career? He isn't even a benchmark player.
OK these posts are interesting. this guy beats his singles opponents 1,0 then 0,0 then 0,2, then 1,1. All of these players are rated 4.5. I guess I just dont understand how the dynamic rating system works. These scores are not competitive. The whole purpose of the NTRP system is that the matches be competitive between 2 similarly rated players. In fact they give an example of a competetive match as being 6-4, 6-4. Yet another reason I stopped playing team tennis. Supposedly the dynamic rating system was supposed to prevent this. Clearly it is failing.
6:44 PM double check now because Crawford and Cornelison both got the DQ. Check results now.
With the two ringers DQ'd, any predictions on who will win Men's 4.5 State?
Slaveski should be the favorite now since Rivas/Emsinger SHOULD only have 8 legal players for State and Phelps does not have the depth.
