Leslie Pfeiffer Hall of Fame?

Leslie Pfeiffer has spent 25 years with the Arkansas Tennis Association. Due to the increase in revenue from the help of hard-working teaching pros promoting the growth of the game and the aid from the USTA & Southern Sectional offices, the budget has increased 25 times from the original budget in 1985.During her tenure the ATA owns its own office space, has a long-term lease on a 27 court facility, and employs staff throughout the state.

Many rumors are circulating that Leslie is nearing the end of her career as the executive director of the ATA, and this award might allow for a positive spin to a career with many controversial twists.

Please feel free to make any comments for the pros and cons of Leslie Pfeiffer's tenure at the helm of the ATA.

Hall of Fame or Hall of Shame? Leslie has tied up with everyone from excellent college referees, wonderful parents of precious junior tennis players, great teaching pros, and the list goes on and on......... I hope this is a way for the ATA to give her the exit by giving her an award. If this exit strategy works, numerous tennis players, captains, etc, would only wish the Arkansas Tennis Association would have done it sooner!

They are far greater individuals than Leslie, especially how she has been involved in many train wrecks with the tennis community. Mary Jane Koch was a far noblier person than this Leslie, about the same difference as Snow White and the Wicked Witch.

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!

LET THE PARTY BEGIN IF LESLIE RETIRES TO PASTURE.

HOPEFULLY, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL FIND A FRIENDLY, EASILY ACCESSIBLE PERSON TO REPLACE HER.

ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW OF ANY CANDIDATES FOR HER POSITION?

Anonymous said...

maybe the retiring leslie can now fulfill her dream as a walmart security employee. a greeter at walmart would definitely not be her forte. policing burns park tennis center of evil ballhoppers probably didn't bode well with the ata board!

Anonymous said...

I must be dreaming when I heard that Leslie is retiring. This is the most important event in Arkansas Tennis History. Maybe all her mishaps can be corrected by the her replacement, especially the organizational structure at Burns with the ATA competing with the local teaching pros. I wish someone would rehash that major mishap!

This award for Leslie is ridiculous!. They paint her out as the best thing that happened in Arkansas tennis. Everyone with real depth in the tennis circles of Arkansas knows that Dr. H. A. Ted Bailey was the biggest supporter of Arkansas tennis along with Bill Trimble. Dr. Bailey would quietly behind the scenes donate money to the ATP tournaments, Virginia Slims Women pro events, and even supported the present St. Vincent Pro Tournament when it was in the red in its infant years. Very few people know of Dr. Bailey's influence because he didn't let anyone know of his generosity to Arkansas tennis. Through his anonymous support, the Arkansas tennis community witnessed Connors, Borg, Stan Smith, Harold Soloman, Virginia Wade, Chris Evert, Davis Cup matches and all the greats play tennis in our community. These events never occured on Leslie's watch but on Mary Jane Koch's tenure!

Anonymous said...

Leslie needs to exit. She once blasted some parents for photographing their child during a match. Rumors spread that the parents were a fair distance from the court not to distract the players and Leslie had no right to bash these parents in front of other people watching the match!

SEVERAL COLLEGE REFEREES HAVE CONSTANTLY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE NEED FOR THE ATA TO RID ITSELF OF LESLIE! MAYBE THIS IS BECOMING A REALITY WITH THE NEWS OF GIVING LESLIE AN AWARD AND A QUICK BOOT OUT THE DOOR!

tennismom said...

Could this be for real? I have the champagne bottle ready to pop open when I hear it's a go! I noticed the new job search on their website so maybe so. Could we be so fortunate?!
I know of not a single person in the state who has had basically anything to do with the ATA who's not had a run-in with her. The amazing part is she's been there for so long. How? Do the Board of Directors stay asleep at the wheel? Text while directing?? Have they not noticed the severely lousy job she's done dealing with the public? What am I saying? That's laughable! How could they NOT?!
All are welcome for the big bash! AR tennis players will have one giant "Leslie IS LEAVING Party! We'd better start planning. It'll be a big one! Lots to celebrate!

while you are talking about our tennis community benefactors, johnny heflin should be mentioned as a top contributor to the games in our state with ted bailey. a person will great personality that promoted the game along with his family that played. leslie should not be even mentioned along with the quality of tennis promoters as haflin or bailey.

Hey Guys,

The funniest comments about the Leslie debaucles are in your article of "Kid's Summer Camps" that you posted in May '09. everyone ought to read about Leslie's run-ins in that article archived here!

Did anybody notice The Billie Jean King Cup at the Madison Square Garden in New York on Monday Night? The Garden was not even a third filled with fans.
No wonder Billie Jean King used her knee surgery as an excuse not to be there.
She must have been embarrassed as the low turnout of tennis fans!!!!

There are no "pros" when it comes to LP but far too many cons. Hope the rumor is true and she is headed out the door. we have all had more than enough.

Anonymous said...

There are some great Arkansas players who have not been recognized:

* Raymond Pascale
* Buddy Bowman
* John Bailey
* Mike Smith
* Johnny Johnson

All of these were good college players and should be considered at some point.

Hall of Fame Nominees?

Peter Doohan
Peter Shultz

Anonymous said...

The ATA is too ignorant to have recognized Peter Doohan as a Hall-of-famer. He makes it to Tennis Channel's "5 Greatest Upsets" segment on a regular basis with his win over Boris Becker at Wimbledon. Wake up Leslie Pfeiffer!!! Put out the cigarette and quit fiddling with your paycheck numbers/ATA books and look around you at great events going on around you. You know what I am talking about!!!

No way Pfeiffer should be the Hall. She ran the Usta membership in the ground, pilfered the highest salary in the Southern tennis association among exec directors, lost the top junior event in the South(Southern Boys&Girls 18s Closed by major goofs such leaving top seed unseeded(Garrett Brasseaux) and must keep her job by whining to board because she can't get insurance til she turns 65. Well, duh! If ur a chain smoker, ur in a higher risk category! Anyone should get n the Hall if such a sorry person like her can get n. Sign every up and everyone be n the Hall of Fame. Everyone Welcome!

I agree that if Leslie Pfeiffer is in the Hall of Fame then anyone should get in!!!

Anonymous said...

Obviously, Pfeiffer doesn't LIKE kids. Just look at USTA JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP.

Anonymous said...

ditto on the comment of ATA board reluctantly keeping Pfeiffer on until age 65. she can't get insurance until then. another failure of the board serving the tennis community. lousy board equals lousy service.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe Pfeiffer lost the top junior tourney in the nation to Mobile, AL. I remember the hot summer that Pfeiffer scheduled the main draw matches in the late mornings and afternoon. It was even brutal on the spectators. I am sure that leaving the top seed as an unseeded player was the real reason for Southern moving the tournament because of the incompetency of the ATA handling of such a great tourney as the Southern 18s.

Anonymous said...

Pfeiffer is a comedy of errors:
Losing Southern 18s Closed to Mobile,AL
Leaving Peter Doohan out of Hall of Fame
Paying herself twice the salary of other exec die
Losing 20 percent of junior Usta membership
Failing to grow the game
Nominating board members for awards and then the board members ignorantly accepting awards
Allowing Families of 1 as the Tennis Family Award
Scheduling main draw matches of major tournaments after lunch

Anonymous said...

The ATA needs an executive director as sharp as Sharon Rahman, the Kentucky Tennis Assn. exec. director. Kentucky has almost twice the members yet she pays herself around $50,000 while Pfeiffer pays herself $90,000. Sharon is also growing her Usta membership and Pfeiffer is losing members. Hall of Fame material? No way!

Anonymous said...

Pfeiffer does not deserve the hall of fame with failing to grow the game of tennis after seeing the declining number of Usta members in Arkansas. Ann Brady is the executive director of the Mississippi Tennis Association and is growing the game of tennis with excellent membership growth. She is paying herself almost 1/2 the salary of Pfeiffer but serves a Usta membership group of 12,800 members in her community(5000 more than Pfeiffer serves) . I wish Arkansas had an executive director that has such great quality of character as Ann Brady instead of our ATA director whose character resembles some smoky pool hall, shady seamy character that Pfeiffer represents.

Anonymous said...

What do y'all think about Pfeiffer hiring board member children? She hired Joe Murphy's kid, Brittany Murphy, and Randy Jackson's kid, Sam Jackson!
.

Anonymous said...

I googled Leslie Pfeiffer ARKANSAS TENNIS and read the article here, " As the Economy Falters......." and clicked on the links for various state tennis assns around Arkansas. Pfeiffer is like Ms Madoff with her consuming over 12 percent of the total budget, serving half the usta members that other neighboring state directors deal with, and bad hiring practices, lowering Hall of Fame stds, and to top it off the board is too stupid that they can't get of her because Pfeiffer can't obtain insurance til age 65.

Would it be possible to have Lesliie Pfeiffer removed from the Hall of Fame? Maybe the board of directors could confess that they had a senior moment, made a mistake, and the only info that they had on Leslie Pfeiffer was the info that she forwarded the board about herself. You have got to believe that the info she submitted on herself was as much a fraud as her overpaying herself almost twice the going rate of other executive directors in the Southern Section.

Anonymous said...

Pfeiffer has mismanaged the Hall of Fame. Peter Doohan not in and Bob Lucky in. Kind of strange to me. Lucky is an avg club player and Doohan is a world class pro player with wins over Agassi. I guess if Doohan was a n ATA board member then he could nominate himself to the Hall of Fame like Bob Lucky did for himself. It is like a bunch of juveniles have taken over the ATA and have decided to nominate themselves and their friends to the Hall of Fame!

Anonymous said...

The board and Pfeiffer got the ATA off track when wanted to be a tennis facility mgmt company instead of a tennis association. Notice how Mississippi has twice the adult membership and they grew tennis statewide. The ATA lost what little Usta membership that they had when they got consumed with tennis facility mgmt thru the NLR/Burns Park agreement. I hope you guys keep grilling Pfeiffer but you need to turn up the heat on the board members. We need to rip this board apart til they sincerely make changes.

Anonymous said...

Dudes,
Doohan should be in the Hall way before Paula Juels Jones. Peter was NCAA All-American and winner over Boris Becker at Wimbledon; Paula was decent junior and maybe played number 5 position in college. I have been reading where the Hall of Fame needed to add some women. Who fo they find Leslie Pfeiffer and Paula Juels. Juels maybe in time. Pfeiffer never. Pfeiffer obviously did everything for a dollar and not volunteerism. People Aldo say Brenda Scisson should have been the next woman in the Hall of Fame. Total mismanagement by Pfeiffer and Board.

Anonymous said...

Guys,
I also vote for the next woman in the Arkansas Tennis Hall of Fame to be Brenda Scisson. If Brenda could be substituted for the Pfeiffer voting-herself-in error, I'm 4 it. Scisson was top junior, 1st female sports writer in town, famous female marketing guru, etc. Brenda, very qualified; Pfeiffer, unqualified. I also agree that it is juvenile for these board members to nominate themselves for awards whether Hall of Fame(Lucky, Pfeiffer, etc), Family of the Year(Murphy), and leaving out Thomas Andersson as Teaching Pro Award.

Anonymous said...

If the ATA is too dumb to recognize Doohan as a Hall of Famer, then the ATA really wouldn't recognize quality teaching pros. Andersson should have already been voted Top Teaching Pro along with Martin whatever his last name at CCLR.

Anonymous said...

Martin Kajevski is the teaching pro at the Country Club of Little Rock.

Anonymous said...

The ATA is due an overhaul. It is out of control when board members and the executive director act like little children and nominate each other for awards- Hall of Fame, Family of the Year, etc. The men on the board join in with the women on the board and act like a bunch of little girls having a pretend tea party. They turn to each other, giggle, and tell each other that I will make you princess if you will make me a prince.

Anonymous said...

i agree that current board members and active executive directors should not be allowed to nominate themselves or others serving with them for awards. they should only be eligible after a period of time between when they actively served. the intl natl hall of fame has a time frame between when a player retires and when they are eligible for nomination. bob lucky, leslie pfeiffer, and others were nominated while they were actively serving on the board. they have made themselves look like children needing special attention that they did not receive in school. the board's actions remind me of the story of the 30+ yr old women who changed her birth certificate to re-enroll in high school so that she could try out for a cheerleader in desperate need of attention.

Anonymous said...

Ridiculous! Board nominating each other? People should serve, get out of the way, and let the next board evaluate their record. This board looking over their own record of service is retarded. The comment about the board acting like a little girls having a pretend tea party hit the nail on the head. The board acts like teenagers saying, "watch me mommy, look what I can do!"

Anonymous said...

These are great posts about the reigning executive director Pfeiffer. Last in membership, lost the best junior tourney in the South, largest decline in membership among the 9 state in the Southern Section does represent Hall of Fame record to me. Pfeiffer is the acting director when she is nominated is outrageous especially when more deserving people are eligible. These actions are deplorable! Please post the list of board members and trustees who are also to blame for this stench.

Hey guys, noticed Joe Murphy is on the board and serving while being nominated for Tennis Family of the Year. Another one of these players who were never great players as a junior or college player but is desperately needing recognition. Look for him to be nominated into Hall of Fame like Bob Lucky, the best player in McGehee Arkansas but an average player.

Hello everyone. My name is Ashley and I live in BeeBee, AR. I was on the HS tennis team when I was in school and played the number one position in singles AND doubles for two years. I've not lost a match in over ten years. I'm probably better now than in hs! I want to get involved and would love a job at the AR association/board and also be in the hall of fame. I have read the posts and I qualify. What do I need to do next to get my goals?

Anonymous said...

I feel like I deserve to be in the tennis hall of fame. I am the greatest tennis player to have ever played from the Lolly Bottoms area in Arkansas. As a junior my mother would take me to the nearest tennis courts to play other neighborhood children. I never lost a match and recorded several golden sets from my opponents by not losing a point. I laid off from playing tennis in my early adult years but have since took up the game. I continue to defeat everyone in my community and my mother still comes to my matches to cheer me on. I am considered the greatest tennis player to have ever played in Lolly Bottoms. My question is how can I get in the Arkansas Tennis Hall of Fame?

Anonymous said...

I nominate the members of the Rogers 2.5 Women's team and the Little Rock 3.5 Women's team that won Nationals. Their accomplishments are far above Pfeiffer's.

Anonymous said...

Dudes,
Myke Loomis deserves to be in the hall, played no. 1 at Univ. of Alabama, NCAA & SEC honors, etc. Juels Jones should have gotten in maybe after Scisson and other women older than her with credentials. Some players want to act like they were some star college player at no. 1 position. In reality they were only number one in getting into the buffet line at the restaurant when the team bus pulled in.

Anonymous said...

Arkansas has a lot of players that played SEC tennis and found the website for results. Oskar Johansson should be in the Hall of Fame before Juels Jones. I found Loomis was All SEC, no Juels Jones, but Johansson clearly in the Hall. Pretty cool to find Lisa Raymond was an SEC player.

Checked out the above NCAA results and Oskar was no.8 & no.20 in final rankings. Found no Juels from'90-'94.I vote Doohan in next , then Johansson. Put them on the board and let them vote themselves looks to be the trend to get them in. The board evidently doesn't look at other people's results but their own. You guys are making a mockery of the decisions by this board. Way to go! Stupid is as Stupid does!

Leslie Pfeiffer doesn't deserve to be rewarded with a Hall of Fame award. She has been rewarding herself by overpaying herself twice the salary of executive directors in other state tennis associations. Motivation by pay does not equate volunteerism.

Dudes,
The best player in Lolly Bottoms ought to be in the Hall of Fame if Bob Lucky, the best player in McGehee, Arkansas. It's not hardy be the best player in McGehee when Desha County lost 17 percent of it's population after checking the last census.

Kaitlin Ray is a far better player than Juels. She should be one of the next women in the hall. She is a blue chip recruit & signed with big time college. She won a National Jr Title which Juels never did.

Anonymous said...

Lori Ann Baxley and Brenda Scisson should have been in the ArkTennis Hall of Fame before Pfeiffer or Juels Jones. The ATA has forgotten about these two individuals because they are not on the board. Ridiculous how the board looks over their own resume instead of others!!!! Pfeiffer should have never gotten in and Baxley & Scisson have a far better resume than Juels Jones. I wish others would pull Juels Jones college record. She was never All Conference is what others are posting. Baxley was even better than Trimble Batchelor back in the day and Trimble Batchelor is already in!!!!

Anonymous said...

If Bob Lucky gets in the Hall of Fame being the best player from the big metropolis called McGehee, then Lolly Bottom's best player should be in the hall even though the best player from Lolly Bottom is probably a 3.0 player.

Anonymous said...

Since you mentioned the ATA Hall of Fame, I heard that Bob Lucky used to play doubles in state junior tournaments with Richard Akel, maybe in the Boy's 12 and Boy's 14. I think Akel did it just to be friends because Lucky never turned out to be a great junior. Guess what? Akel gets in the Hall of Fame before Peter Doohan and Doohan is the far better player. Do you think Lucky played favorites? Paula Juels gets in the hall before Lori Ann Baxley. Baxley was a much better player but she doesn't have a Woody Juels greasing Pfeiffer for court repair work and Woody filling her ears with what a great player his daughter is, blah, blah, blah! Lori Ann should have been in way ahead of Juels if the hall needed a woman in!

Anonymous said...

Bob Lucky in the Hall of Fame???? What a joke! Never a top junior in the little state of Arkansas. He serves on the board and tells everyone how great he is! John Bailey could teach Lucky some etiquette manners by telling Lucky that he serves also on the board and was a great junior player and really should be in the hall of fame before him.

Anonymous said...

Guys, let's get serious! Randy Jackson has represented our state tennis assn at the southern level well. He probably deserves to be in the Hall of Fame if Steve Duffel is in there. Jackson was a far better college player than Duffel and has done volunteer work like Duffel. Looking over both of their records, if Duffel is in, Jackson should be in.

I can't believe that this little rinky dinky state tennis association has not inducted a real celebrity pro tennis player like Peter Doohan. Peter makes it to Tennis Channel's 5 Greatest Upsets in the history of tennis with his win over Boris Becker. The little bunch of nobodies that run the association are only interested in making their little selves into somebody. Players, who never were a real college star and barely made the starting lineups at #5 position and below, brag to people that are not knowledgeable about the game of tennis and mislead them into believing that they are really some great tennis player. These people are a bunch of selfish little people and evidently have not served the tennis community but selfishly served for themselves. No wonder USTA Arkansas tennis enrollment is down almost 10%! Peter Doohan, not being in this rinky dinky hall, shows the true level of incompetency of the board and director!

Dudes,
Did you notice Darrell Snively of Olney, IL was recently inducted into the Arkansas Tennis Association Hall of Fame? I think he is legit, don't you?

Brenda Witt is the executive director of the Tennessee Tennis Association. She earned $50,000 in 2008 vs Pfeiffer's $91,000, Brenda serves over 13,000 Usta Tennessee members vs Pfeiffer's Usta Arkansas membership of over 7,000 members. Usta Tennessee even increased their membership by over 2% and Usta Arkansas lost about 8% of their membership. I read your Hall of Fame article about Pfeiffer and how she doesn't have any great accomplishments with her Usta results, but very poor Usta results on her record. The board of your state tennis association evidently sees her poor results similar to schools overlookIng poor student test scores.

Diana Beauregard is the executive director of the Louisiana Tennis Association and earned around $52,000 for '08. During the same period Leslie Pfeiffer paid herself $91,000. Diana Beauregard deals with a Usta membership of 14,800 and Pfeiffer hates dealing with her 7,500 group. A little disparity in Pfeiffer's pay scale to say the least!

I don't think Pfeiffer has the character to make the Hall of fame unless we want Arkansas to be known to accept cheaters, liars and alcholics. Second thought, give it to her, maybe she will retire.

Guys,
Talking about liars and cheaters, we have several attorneys, both male and female, that serve in different capacities on the board of the ATA. Their ethical behavior in serving the tennis community should be scrutinized to see if they are using their positions honestly.

BTW, how does Robert Cox keep his job? Perennially last in the SEC almost every year. Obviously the U of A could care less about Men's Tennis.

I agree that Brenda Scissions, Laura Ann Baxley and Miki Loomis should be the next three women to be inducted into the AR tennis hall of fame. They are FAR more deserving than Leslie and Paula.

This is Leslie Pfeiffer or leslie Capwell's son. She is an awful person who will have to think about all the terrible things she has done in her life, she cheated on Gary Capwell for YEARS right in front of his face and her two kids face me and Tamara Brown Adkins. All our friends would come over and see Gary sitting watching TV and Mom and Jim over at the dinner table laughing and drinking drinks together for years that happened...I didnt want to believe it. She was never home and then got Jim Pfeiffer her alcholic husband to try and beat me up and throw me up against at door at 13 years old because Mom told him I was mean to her...Shes selfish, ugly on the inside and bad excuse for a Mother by far. I have never known a Mom to disown there children and she Sent me a letter in mail years ago doing that. Saying that it hurt her to bad to see me, that I would purposely try and hurt her for the pain of years of abuse by her. She lies and cheats and now she will have to live all the rest of her life thinking of her terrible ways. She never fixed meals for kids...we truly had to fend for ourselves. I was grouned in my room alone from the age 5 till almost 17 with No Tv and always told im dumb and stay in my room. She should be recognized for the person she truly is. And that daughter of hers Tamara, well shes a drug addict too. They are a team. Jim Pfeiffer trys to keep Mother Druged up so she stays with him and cant be level headed. No telling what kind of pills hes perscribing her. Shes a true Sons nitemare. If you look in her eyes you will see the pain that shes dealing with, cause if shes human, shes hurting for what she has done to her son. Thats a fact.
