NTRP RATINGS BLOWN UP!!!!!!!!

The USTA player ratings for 2010 have caused quite a stir in Central Arkansas. Teams have been blown up! New NTRP rules are in place and teams are forming quickly as players are moving in all directions.
Feel free to post any news, opinions, or related info. We all need to keep up.

As usual some ratings are senseless.
Eric Sixbey still a 4.5 but Jason Lyon a 5.0? Joe Murphy a 5.0? He couldn't compete in Women's 5.0! 10 players on Marty Archers team bumped to 4.5? Only 3 players on the power Jonesboro 4.0 team got bumped?

I feel sad for the players getting bumped to a division they are not going to be competitive in. Get ready for a Tiger Woods beating or stay out for 3 years and get your accurate rating back.

You can't sit out three years any more early poster! No re-rating after initial self-rating starting 2010. Sitting out won't move you except losing at the next level.

Wow, the new ratings are bumping up the hotter-looking women to higher skill levels! That is great for tennis- more Sharapovas on our home courts! Usually the beauties are at the lower skill levels and as a woman's game progresses she plays and acts more masculine.

I think the new ratings are good for the system. Some of the same teams played in state finals each year and a change was needed across the board. Dynamic ratings can not be rolled back by sitting out and rerating is an excellent rule. I am glad for the change and the USTA League Committee finally got on the same page in implementing fairness.

To Early Senseless Poster-
Some of the 4.5s played as a 5.0 and had their dynamic rating move upward due to playing up and losing at the upper level also. Bailey carried Murphy in all dbls matches and moved up with him to 5.0. Sixby played the system well to keep his 4.5 rating the same with a self-rating to begin the season on top of that. New pairings next year will make an interesting season.

change can be a good thing with the new ntrp rules and ratings...can't wait for spring to get here and see the new teams out there

The new ratings are great from the men's 4.0 perspective. New pairings other than robinson etc vs herring etc are a breath of fresh air.

tinsley has always captained a great 4.0 women's team. i wonder what will happen to that team since she got bumped?

reply to Senseless poster comment...you say 4.5 players played up and got beat at 5.o that is why the got bumped to 5.0?? then that shows you they should be 4.5 and NOT bumped to 5.0 if they cannot win at the nextlevel. DUH

Also, the computer is smart enough to seperate Murphy from Bailey so Murphy should not have been bumped to 5.0.

If that is senseless remarks then your reply is very senseless.

I think you can lose at a ntrp level above your present rating but the computer could still raise your dynamic rating using the calculation the usta uses when adjusting the loser's dynamic rating with the winner's dynamic rating. An article about calculating the dynamic ntrp rating specified such cause for playing up a level.

The new teams being formed by the new ratings are going to be interesting for 2010. A captain for one team has relocated to another club and away from Burns Park. Rumors have it that Gus Rivera ran her off and her team of 14 members.
So I guess we will all see teams playing out of different facilities than we are used to besides the different look on their rosters.

i see why that team left burns park tennis center as their home site. when i played there indoors the temperature inside was as cold inside as it was outside. i about froze to death. my partner has a very low core body temperature from a health condition known as reynaud's disease and her toes and fingers were completely white.

I had my last experience at BP this past week. My regular ladies group went to play and I brought some dry clothes to change into afterwards. After we played in the dark and frozen basement bundled up as if going skiing I went to the lower locker room to change.

I peeled the layers off then went to the restroom. Just as I heard the last splash hit the water I reached for some toilet paper. My heart began to race as all I felt was the hard piece of cardboard the roll would've been on.I kept twirling it thinking, hoping there would be some. NONE. I then put my pants down to my ankles and popped open the door to look for the brown hand wipies by the sink. I knew they would be rougher than the already awful Scott tissue but I was desperate. There was NONE!

My mind started to spin thinking of possible options. Did I have any tissue in my tennis bag or purse? What if someone walked in as I ventured out?? I risked it and with my pants at my ankles did a duckwalk to find the tissue as I watched the door. I couldn't find any! I knew then I was in big trouble. I am embarrassed to admit I had no option but to wipe myself with one of the socks I'd played in! Knowing they were expensive socks I wasn't about to just toss them either. I stuck the "wipeysock" inside the unused one to carry it home to the laundry.

Once I got myself together and finally made it upstairs my friends asked me what took so long. I was too embarrassed to tell them of my experience or that I had wiped my hooha with a sock (which was still in my tennis bag!) so attempted to go on but did end up telling them of the lack of tissue and toiletry items at Burns Park.

Seriously bp staff, what's the deal? I realize you're not a luxurious facility but bare necessities?? C'mon! Who else may have experienced what I did and what all is on the bathroom floors as myself and others have waddled to our bags?? It didn't exactly smell "fresh" in there!

Between this last incident and all the other problems we've encountered my group has decided to play at a different time at the private facility we belong to. Enough is enough!

ByeBye Burns!! Hello Toilet Paper!

An elderly friend of mine complained of the times he rented an indoor court at Burns Park and they turned on one bank of lights for the court. The visibility was poor and the elderly person asked the tennis director if they would turn on some more lights because it was hard to see the tennis ball. The tennis director rudely said that the elderly person would have to rent the next court too. I told the elderly tennis player that the Burns Park Tennis Center staff should have used more tact and told him that the tennis center was on a tight budget and could only turn on lights for that one court instead of rudely telling him to rent an extra court if he needed more lighting for his one court that he rented!

To: Burns Indoor Bad Lighting Experience

I don't know if Gus Rivera or Leslie Pfeiffer is the problem with your situation. Harold Henderson once said that Leslie P. was hired because she was good with the numbers(budget) at the Arkansas Tennis Association (ATA). If Gus or Leslie were so good with the mgmt decisions and budget constraints, I would think there would be toiletpaper in the bathrooms, extra lighting, no raindrops of water on the courts, etc.
I wish others would log on and voice their bad experiences there and maybe we can seek reimbursements/damages from their negligence!

THE TRUTH HURTS AGAIN FOR THE POOR MGMT BY ATA. COMPLAINTS ARE CONSTANTLY POURING IN. RUMORS ARE CIRCULATING THAT FEELINGS ARE HURT BY THE ATA ABOUT THESE COMPLAINTS BY THE POOR MGMT AT BURNS. I THINK THE ATA SHOULD LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS OF THE PUBLIC THEY SERVE AND MAKE CORRECTIONS BY SERVING THE PAYING TENNIS PLAYERS BETTER.

everytime my team played at burns the bathrooms had no paper towels to dry hands, to pull the door handle, or turn off the faucett. being a clean freak, i noticed this on every occasion and not just once in a while. very unsanitary to me!

The best management at Burns was when Robinson ran it. Tournament attendance was at all time highs. Great treatment to the paying public was a priority. Fabulous merchandise deals in the proshop. Leagues were filled up.
Why can't the ATA take notice and make changes? Take us back to the GOOD OL' DAYZ!!!!!

Tinsley's former Women's 4.0 team recently lost more team members to the PVCC team of Mahler, Perkins, etc. The Women's 4.0 competition is going to be fun to watch as teams try to shore up their weaknesses. NW Ark last yr winning team lost only 3 players.Another tough team to beat!

Burns is pathetic and I agree that Danny Robinson was by far the best director Burns has had in a decade. Since he has left, the tournaments there have been non existent.

I seen Gus play tennis and his game is lacking to say the least, and he makes no effort to get to know the BP customers.

On another note, during winter, the temperature indoors is colder than upstairs....during summer, the heat is so unbearable indoors that you need to open the doors by Court 1 to get any relief.

Between the poor poor shape of the Rebsamen courts, the above comments on Burns Park, and Pat Riley's monopoly of private club indoor tennis....Central Arkansas players have little to no options.

AS FAR AS LIGHTS AND A LEAKY ROOF..TRY TALKING TO MAYOR HAYES..HE'S THE ONE THAT CAN SPEND MONEY ON TOTAL CRAP THAT HE WANTS..BUT HE'S NOT A TENNIS PLAYER SO HE WON'T PUT OUT THE MONEY TO FIX THE ROOF OR LIGHTING..TRUST ME..I'VE TRIED!

Anonymous said...

Mayor Hayes & Fixed lighting is not the problem!!! the problem is " NOT TURNING ON THE LIGHTS". It is hard to play tennis in the dark if lights are not turned on! If you rent a court the lights should come on with the court rental.

I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THE SENIORS..THEY GET TO PLAY FOR HALF PRICE (no one else does)and all they do is complain..if you can't see ...wear your glasses!it's funny no one else complains about the lights!

Hey Dude,
Get your facts straight! The seniors pay a semi-annual fee to get reduced rates. They don't get a lower rate for free or by presenting an AARP card. That is one thing I like about this blog- the straight talk that the ignorant like you need to hear and the facts presented in a simple fashion for you to understand!
